With a Word...

With a Word…
Rabbi Yehudah ben Shomeyr

When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill.  This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “He Himself took our infirmities and carried away our diseases.” – Matt. 8:16-17 (NASB)

A Word…  Yeshua cast out demons with just “a word.” No charismatic carryings on, no dramatic raised voice and flailing gestures with froth coming out of the mouth commanding demons to do this or that. No binding or commanding to go to the Abyss… just, a word. Some translations have “word” capitalized. Some translated it “the word” instead of “a word,” or “His word” instead of “a word.”

Many have speculated on what that word was. The Greek word indicates that it could have even been a grunt! Like a father may look at his child and grunt and instinctively due to the situation the child would know exactly what that grunt means. Or was it a single word of command, “Exit, Go, Vamoose, Skedaddle, Leave?” What was it? Many believe it was the Tetragrammaton, The Sacred Name of the Almighty God; YHWH (Yahweh)! I honestly do not think it really matters. It is very possible, after all, Judaic legends about the power of the four letter Hebrew Name of God used by Solomon to conquer demons, or by Rabbi’s creating a Golem out of clay to protect the people.

Many want to know what it was and if it was The Name, how do we pronounce it and use it in deliverance ministry. I believe HaShem allowed the Gospels not to record what “his, the, a word” was for the same reason the majority of us will never be rich, because we would abuse and couldn’t handle such power and authority. If you are one of the ones who believe it was the Name and wants to know, what it is and how to use it, your heart and motives are in the wrong place.  Bottom line, it is simply enough to know that our Messiah can and did and with He in us (John 15, 17) we can too without the carnival sideshow theatrics religion brings to the table.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. – John 14:12

What can be greater than just a word!? It sure wouldn’t be screaming, sweating and hopping around to get a demon out of a guy!

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid [them] on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. – Acts 5:15

If Yeshua used a word and Kefa (Peter) a shadow, will He use a simple look or a telepathic thought through us!? We may never know until we become 100% submitted and obedient to Him.

People wonder why we don’t experience “Acts chapter two” type stuff in our day. It’s not a matter of us waiting on GOD, it is a matter of HIM waiting on us!
