4 Things Regarding Yeshua’s Healing Ministry

4 Things Regarding Yeshua’s Healing Ministry
Rabbi Yehudah ben Shomeyr

And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak…  And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town. – Mark 7:31-37, 8:22-26

Several things I would like to point out from these two passages:
1.    No Hallelujah, hundred dollar  line in the middle of a crowded Roman Coliseum or Mega Synagogue
2.    No public endorsements by the recipient of the Miraculous Healing

And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue – Mark 7:33

And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. – Mark 8:23

Yeshua, during His ministry never rented out the Coliseum to hold a healing service with His 70 (Luke 10:1) Talmidim (Disciples) wearing matching tallits with “Rabbi Yeshua Ministry Staff” printed on the back. No, He preferred to heal on the sly, away from crowds or any sort of limelight.

And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it – Mark 7:36

And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town. – Mark 8:26

Yeshua didn’t want the people who were healed to shout it from the rooftops, run down the aisles of the Mega Synagogue or the Coliseum thrusting their crutches skyward. No, Yeshua preferred for them to go about their daily lives and to have the people who know them best and live near them to notice, so as to ask the one who was healed what happened and in that way, the word of the miracle spread in a more reliable confirmable way without hype or people accusing Yeshua of attempting to promote His Name or Ministry.

Why then do we have ministries in Yeshua’s Name do the exact opposite of what Yeshua did!?

And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue.  And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. – Mark 7:32-35

– Mark 8:23-25

3.    The very One who spoke the world into existence (Gen. 1, John 1) in human form used the organ of speech to give life and repair the dead and or malfunctioning organs of the ones in need of a miraculous healing. Very unorthodox indeed.

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. – I Cor. 27-29

– Mark 8:23-25

4.    Lastly, amazingly, even Yeshua had to touch a man twice before he was completely healed.

This shows us that not all healings are instantaneous and some manifest slowly over time.

This reminds me of a time I was ministering with a couple in Florida who had a healing ministry by blowing the shofar (ram’s horn) over and praying for people with miraculous results. This time I was privileged to minister with them and witness first hand a miraculous healing.

An elderly gentleman toting a white cane with a red tip who had glaucoma unwittingly arrived at the hotel conference room where we were holding a preaching service late as we were packing up and getting ready to leave. As he sat we informed him he had just missed the service. He appeared disappointed and we asked simply if we could pray with him. As we were praying, we felt led to address his blindness. The couple grabbed their shofarim and invited me to take mine in hand and join them. We began to pray and blow the shofarim over him and we asked if he could see. He informed us that he could only see shapes, shadows and silhouettes and after we prayed he said the darkness appeared “lighter.” Being reminded of Yeshua touching a blind man twice we didn’t give up and prayed over him and blew the shofarim over him once again and as we were doing so in the spirit I seen myself blowing my shofar into the back of his head and I seen the pressure of the glaucoma blow out. I informed the couple at what I just saw and they told me by all means obey the vision. As I did as I saw we asked the man if his sight had improved. We held up fingers in front of him and he correctly told us repeatedly the correct number of digits we held before him. He then pointed to the ground of the hotel conference room and began to describe the complex patterns that made up the carpet of the conference room. Flabbergasted, we held before him a multi-colored tallit and asked him to count the stripes and name the colors and he did!  In approximately a 30 minute time frame this man went from only seeing dark shapes and shadows to seeing details in a carpet and colors on a tallit! He had been totally healed of his glaucoma! It was Mark 8:22-26 come to life before our very eyes!
