I share my birthday (August 6th) with some cool people;
my childhood friends Michael Needham and Debbie Goodson Jackson and high school
friend Dustin Ensminger. As well as some pretty cool famous people: Clara Bow, Sir
Alexander Fleming, Lucille Ball, Robert Mitchum, Andy Warhol, Soleil Moon Frye,
M. Night Shyamalan, Ginger Spice, Catherine Hicks, Lord Tennyson, George
Stroumboulopolis.
Some neat events happened on my birthday: General George
Washington establishes the Badge of Military Merit, known today as the Purple
Heart. Nineteen-year-old Gertrude Ederle becomes the first woman to swim the
English Channel, completing the journey in 14 hours 31 minutes. 1934 U.S.
troops leave Haiti, which had been occupied since 1915. The Atomic Bomb was dropped on
Hiroshima. Bolivia gains independence from Spain. First autobahn opens in
Germany. Jamaica gains independence from the UK. Stevie Wonder involved in car crash,
goes into a 4 day coma. President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Voting Rights
Act which outlaws discriminatory voting practices which had been used to stop
African-American voting. Beatles release "Help" album in U.K. The Curiosity rover controlled by NASA's Mars
Science Laboratory, lands safely on the surface of Mars.
Sadly, Rick James and John Hughes passed away on this day.
