The Spiritual Significance of 13

The Spiritual Significance of 13
This is our Year!
Rabbi Yehudah ben Shomeyr

Thirteen; the number, due to conditioning and perceptions of the Western world, sends some people into a panic. The fear of the number is called, Triskaidekaphobia.  But 13 has always been a very kind a favorable number in my life. I have never feared it or have been superstitious of it. I have always had good days on Friday the 13th.

Unbeknownst to most, 13 is a very spiritual number. In Eastern religions thirteen is the number of spiritual insight and genius. In Hebraic faiths thirteen is the number of Merciful Attributes of GOD. In Hebraic Gematria thirteen is the numeric equivalent to the Hebrew word for love (ahavah), and I John 4:8 tells us that, “GOD IS LOVE,” so thirteen is a number representory of GOD Himself. Thirteen in Hebraic  Gematria also represents the word for “echad” meaning,  “one in plurality” which is a word used in Deut. 6:4 to describe GOD. The 13th letter in the Hebrew alphabet is “Mem” symbolic of Water, the Word and rebirth.

Thirteen is the number of the tribes of Israel if you count Levi and count Josephs sons separately. Yeshua (Jesus) and His talmidim (disciples) makes 13.

In Judaism, thirteen is when a boy has his Bar Mitzvah and becomes a man in the Jewish community and thus represents spiritual maturity.

I do believe that 2013 will be our year. At least my year anyway.

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. Joshua 1:3

2012 seemed very chaotic, confusing and unsettling. Once the year changed I felt the Almighty doing something in me.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Yeshua the Messiah. Phil. 1:6

I got curious the number 2013 and looked up the corresponding Hebrew word in the Strong’s Concordance. Here is what I discovered:

2013 hacah haw-saw' a primitive root; to hush:--hold peace (tongue), (keep) silence, be silent, still.

It is used in Hab. 2:20:

But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

Seeing as this is the Hebrew year 5773, I looked this up in the Strong’s Concordance as well and here is what I found:

5773 `av`eh av-eh' from 5753; perversity:--X perverse. Though perversity is the most common translation for this word, it also means; to stir up or to turns things upside down.

We see this in Isa. 24:1:

Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

This tells me what HaShem is doing within the Body of believers in 2013/5773. He desires us to come before Him, sit at His feet and be silent, as He stirs things up and turns things upside down with in us and the world for that matter. 2013/5773 is a year of rebirth, renewal, rejuvenation and revival… that is IF we obey and be silent before Him.
